Lago Di Braies
Hiking around the blue mountain lake, Lago Di Braies
The pearl of the Dolomites Lago Di Braies
No trip to the Dolomites is complete without a stop at the famous blue mountain lake Lago di Braies, also called Pragser Wildsee. We have seen many mountain lakes on our travels in the mountains, but this one is quite spectacular!
Lago Di Braies is an alpine lake and part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The reflection of the mountains on the water makes this place very special and the color of the lake is incredibly beautiful.
The most iconic photo spot in the Dolomites
If you love photography, the Dolomites are the place to go. Lago Di Braies is probably one of the most famous places and many come to take beautiful pictures at the iconic boathouse. After leaving the iconic boathouse, we followed the hiking trail around the lake. We had a beautiful and quiet morning hike, and found some beautiful viewpoints where we relaxed with our morning coffee and took beautiful nature photos.
Arrive early
It is no secret that Lago di Braies is the most touristic lake in the Dolomites. You have to get up very early to escape the crowds. The best time to visit the lake is in May and June or September and October, while the weather is still warm and nice. High season is a no go, in our opinion. We visited the lake in October and arrived very early in the morning. When the hiking trail became full of tourists around 11 am, we drove away again.
Location - South Tirol
The lake is located in the Braies Valley in South Tyrol, northeast of the Dolomites. The lake and valley are located in the middle of the Fanes Senes Braies Nature Park, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Tickets July - September
To maintain the ecosystem, you must book a ticket between July 10 and September 10. After September 11, there is no traffic regulation and access to the lake is again freely available.
Best time to visit Lago di Braies
Autumn is a really nice time to visit the Dolomites if you are looking for cool weather and fewer tourists.
Autumn is also the time when the larch trees turn yellow and orange.
